Gone With the Wind

So I haven't blogged in a little while. I am reading Gone With the Wind. I have started this book probably 4 times and so far I am the farthest I have ever been.

But I still have to read a ton.

Til later....

Book #1: To Kill a Mockingbird

I have to start by saying that this wasn't the first time I read To Kill a Mockingbird (TKAM) by Harper Lee. In fact, it was actually the third. First in 8th grade (pleasure), then in 9th grade (assigned), and finally the 3rd time about a week ago. I decided to reread it with my best friend, because he and I are leaving for college and he has never read it (pathetic right??). Anyway, I just have to say that it gets better and better each time.

I decided that on each blog on a book I've finished should contain at least the following things...
1. Title, author, number of pages.
2. How long it took me to read it. (recall I am not the fastest reader, nor can I stay up til 3 am reading, most of the times.)
3. Favorite character and a quote
4. Favorite scene
5. Why I loved it/liked it/disliked it ect.

So, for my first book.......
1. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee 281 pages.
2. July 20 to July 24. 4 days
3. If you had asked me in 8th or 9th grade who my favorite character was I would have immediately said Scout Find. But now on my third time I have a bit more knowledge (at least I like to think that) and more experiences, and I cannot as easily decide who my favorite character is. To be honest, there are too many. I will always love Scout. Plain and simple. I love watching Jem grow up and figure out the ways of life or Dill, struggle with his family issues. Atticus, the backbone of the novel, the voice of equality in a prejudice society. But if I had to choose just one, I would choose Boo. Every time Boo's name is mentioned in a scene, or the kids pick something out of the tree it brings a smile to my face. I can't help but smile and get excited inside. Boo just makes me grin.
4. Favorite scene....everything.
5. Why I love it is also easy. It's not a book I can directly relate too, however it is a book that really started my love for reading. Its the first book that I can remember where the characters were inciting, exciting, and really drew me in. It was my first "big girl" book in a way. I just love it.

From Harper Lee to the book that haunts me Gone With the Wind....

Numbero Dos

Before I start blogging about actual books I need to fix a few mistakes.

1. In my previous blog I wrote that if I read a book a week it would only take me 3 years. Its summer and my math was definitely not up to speed. Even if I read a book a week it would take me 19 years and 3 months basically. That's twice my age now. But I am not giving up. I don't know if I can keep the pace of a book a week but we shall see.

2. I have to admit too that I read a lot of pleasure books that are not on the 1001 list. I have not decided how I am going to incorporate that into this blog.

3. Lastly, back to the 1001. A little explaining. There are three versions of the list, containing close to 1300 books between them. On the most recent list (2010) I have read only 16 or so. I decided that if I am going to blog I want to start fresh. So that being said, my first book was one of my all time favorites. A blog to come on that soon.

My First Blog

It's official!! I am now a blogger!! :)

I am creating this blog to write about my journey through the book 1001 Books to Read Before You Die. It's a simple book, documenting the "must reads". Yes, I know its basically impossible. Even if I read a book a week it would take me over three years to finish. And let's be honest, I am busy with work, school, friends, family, ect, so there is no way that I could finish a book a week.

Therefore, I decided that I am not going to put a timeline on this project. I am going to just blog as I read new books, reread old ones, struggle through Heart of Darkness, fall in love again with Jay Gatz in Great Gatsby, and work my way through the 1001 books.

Join me on this journey. I encourage everyone, readers and non readers.
